Heacham Junior School

School Update -

Closure of Avocets and Albatrosses Bubbles

We were informed this morning that a member of staff had tested positive with Coronavirus (Covid-19). She had the test on Sunday 7th June after being advised by a qualified medical professional.

This member of staff was not at work on Monday when we reopened and she last worked with pupils at our school in April. But she was on site here at Heacham Junior School on Thursday 4th June for a 45-minute briefing with three other members of staff in one classroom.

All four members of staff maintained social distancing, and cleaners worked in that classroom shortly afterwards, ensuring it was cleaned to current Covid-19 guidelines.

We have been in contact with Public Health England today and it has advised us, as a precautionary measure, that the other three members of staff need to self-isolate for 14 days and be tested for Covid-19.

The tests are a completely precautionary measure as none of these members of staff are displaying any symptoms. Public Health England does not believe we need to close the school at this stage.

We have, however, made the decision to keep the Albatross and Avocet bubbles closed for the remainder of this week. This is not a decision we've taken lightly, but we believe it is in the best interest of our staff and children. Our aim is to reopen these bubbles on Monday 15th June.

While everything we have done so far has been for precautionary reasons, we would encourage you to remind your children about social distancing and washing their hands regularly.

It is also important to highlight if your child does develop symptoms then you should register to have them tested within 3 days of them developing the symptoms: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested
